Not to be outdone, our Ladder Golfers and their caddies were ready to compete…Once of the residents said, “Beginner’s luck is real – look at me, I’ve never played Ladder Golf before and I’m taking home a medal!” Gold Medalist Glen exclaimed: “I’ve played sports all my life and competition keeps you young at heart!” Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by, MP Pat Kelly who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.

Some of the Ladder Balls were known to hit the roof! Thank goodness all competitors were far back! “Ladder Golf was always the game we played when we camped as a family. Today brought back so many memories of the competition I had with my own boys”. Love and friendly competition were in the air as this morning got off to an excellent start. The Round Robin produced 12 bowlers with scores over 150! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! We are apparently great bowlers under pressure as we all persevered, starting with lower points and ending with STRIKES! Not to be outdone, our Ladder Golfers and their caddies were ready to compete… Gold Medalist Stella exclaimed: “Thanks for your help and encouragement! I can’t believe I got gold!” Love was Everywhere! Athletes were joined at the award ceremony by our great volunteer who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.

One Resident, Agnes, tried ladder golf for the first time today and won the gold medal! During Wii Bowling we had some amazing cheerleaders keeping us on top of our game. “Come on honey, get them all down!” “You were robbed, I’m going to talk to the machine!” Bowlers & Golfers were joined at the award ceremony by Cindy & Cecille from Shoppers Drug Mart, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.

A super exciting day was had by all! At College Park 2 10 competitors battled for medals with the final bowlers finishing with top scores! Resident Bess B. said about WII Bowling “That was SO EXCITING to watch!” We had 15 competitors battled the ladder golf course with 3 coming out as the top golf dogs! “Not only did I not know about the game ladder golf, I am really good at it!” new resident Gur.

We had 7 golfers signed up for the tournament and a full house of cheerleaders out watching the game, just as we were about to start curiosity was peaked and we opened up the floor for more to join in the tournament! Going from 7 to 13 ladder golf athletes! It took some convincing, but Al joined in the Ladder Golf Tournament after initially saying “I am a great wrestler though” when turning us down with a mischievous grin. Today we learned that Ladder Golf is thought to have been invented at a campground. How exciting leading into our Summer Camp Days! Our bowlers and Ladder Golfers were joined at the award ceremony by Virginia, from the Saskatoon Council on Aging, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes! Many of our athletes are excited to join in even more fun this week!

There were Ooo’s and Ahh’s when players either made a trick shot or lost a seemingly perfect throw. Safe to say our spectators were kept on their toes!

The Round Robin produced 8 bowlers with scores over 204! “That damn pin has glue on it!” said 3 of the 8 bowlers! We were extremely impressed by their skill and talents. Our winner even managed to score a Turkey, the first one we have ever seen! While only 8 bowlers competed, we had a cheering section of 10! Not to be outdone, our 21 Ladder Golfers and their caddies were ready to compete! It was a tough fought game with a couple upsets but even more triumphs. Pat our Ladder Golf Gold Medalist declared, “Some days you’re gold!” Way to go golfers! We had 20 participants who had never seen or played the All-Seniors Care Senior Games before! “Well, I’ve never done that before” said Roberta as she bowled her very 1st strike during Wii Bowling! We ended up going to five rounds because every bowler wanted to get to at least one strike! One of our Wii Bowling athletes exclaimed, “When nothing goes right…go left!” Her ball went to the left as she needed the ball to go to the right to hit a spare. We were very impressed by the skill and talent that Shaftesbury Park displayed today! Not to be outdone, our Ladder Golfers also showed off their skills! Residents applied themselves to coming up with different chants! The competitive atmosphere here at Shaftesbury is ASTRONOMICAL! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! We can all agree that getting a strike in Wii-Bowling isn’t an easy task! Lorraine J, our Wii Bowling Assistant got a “five-bagger” which blew our minds during our morning round – that is five strikes in a row! Frustrations were high during our Wii Bowling playoff rounds, as we noticed quite a few sticky corner pins. A left pin problem, then a right pin problem. Pat T joked “At least you’re not having a gutter problem” as she did. Laughs and jokes all around! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! The residents were great bowlers under pressure today. Helen. K had 6 strikes in a row during the playoff round! Unbelievable display of skill! After the preliminary round 5 athletes competed in the playoff round! Marilyn. M was crowned the winner of this year’s Ladder Golf competition! This morning we had 7 bowlers between our memory care floor and our independent floors. Spectator residents cheered their loudest for the competitors. This afternoon we had our ladder golf competition. Most of our residents had never played ladder golf before but after a few warm-up shots they all got the hang of it and became naturals! One of our residents from our memory care floor won the second place for our building. She was so excited and stopped everyone she could in the hallway to tell them that she won and show off her medal! We had a whopping 11 players for Ladder Golf and had to do an intense tie breaker. Not only did we have a lot of competitors we also had an incredible group of supporters which helped our athletes really get into the game! Chef de Mission Maureen said how incredible this theme is as we do not express how much we love each other enough.

Love and friendly competition were in the air this morning got off to an excellent start. Lakeridge Heights residents were eager and excited this morning for the Nintendo Switch Bowling. The theatre was packed with athletes in which everyone cheered and encouraged each other on. The ladder ball had residents even more excited! You could hear the cheering throughout the home. It was lovely to see the residents come together and really encourage and cheer for each other. Residents were chatting all through lunch about the morning activities that encouraged others to participate. We had many first-time activity attenders! Thinking it is only up from here!
Before the finals we had a 4-way tie in which we had to go into 3 sudden death challenges to see who moved on. The same happened for the finals which had the residents even more excited for the winners. Bowling Gold Medalist Vicky, who uses a wheelchair, encouraged fellow senior athletes: “Anyone is able to do it!”

At McCarthy Place we battled it out for medals through Wii Bowling and Ladder Golf. Love was in the air, combined with a scent of friendly competition as this morning got off to an excellent start. McCarthy residents really made a great impression by throwing strike after strike during Wii Bowling, followed by Ladder Golf; both games were fierce of friendly competition! “We are apparently great at Ladder Golf while under pressure”. Athletes were joined at the Medal Ceremony by Health and Wellness Director Leisha and Terri Philpott from Stratford’s One Care who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances today. “You just have to have fun with it and give the people love and support,” said Jean.

Here at the Summit the bowlers and golfers forged up the hill to showcase their abilities in the two games of the day. Athletes were joined at the award ceremony by ASC staff, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. “You don’t get medals for trying something, you get medals for aiming high and having fun!!!!!”

Ce fut une très belle journée les résidents ont adore leur journée ils avaient beaucoup de rire surtout avec le Wii ont à eu bien du Plaisir. De la compétions mais amical. La remise de médaille cest Marcellin notre infirmier auxiliaire qui les a remis. Mais le plus drôle pour moi cest de les voir au wii!
