CANADA – The 17th Annual ASC Seniors Games are underway, uniting seniors from All Seniors Care Living Centres nationwide for a week of friendly competition and connection. Running February 2–6, this year’s theme, There’s No Place Like Our Home, celebrates community, belonging, and active living. Embracing the Oz-inspired theme, senior athletes began the week by Walking & Rolling along a Yellow Brick Road toward days filled with teamwork, determination, and heart.

“I’ve only lived here for about two years, and when I first moved in, I didn’t know many people. The Seniors Games quickly changed that,” observed resident Dorothy Z. “Through the Games, I have met people who became my friends and, honestly, if these Games hadn’t happened, I might not have met many of them at all. I’m so grateful for that. These Games remind us that home isn’t just a place, it’s the people we connect with and the friendships we build along the way.”

To officially launch the Games, Chefs de Mission at each residence welcomed participants, offered words of encouragement, and shared congratulatory messages from Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Mark Carney. Dignitaries—including MPs, MLAs/MPPs, mayors, and councillors—joined opening ceremonies across the country, offering their support and well wishes.”

February 3rd  – Bean Bag Toss, Pétanque (National Event)

February 4th – Ladder Ball (National Event) and Cornhole

February 5th –  Bocce, Shuffleboard

February 6th – Jeopardy, Bingo, Closing Ceremony

A testament to the power of active living at any age, the ASC Seniors Games are made possible by the dedication of resident volunteers and staff who pour their hearts into making each event a success. With competitions, awards, and plenty of good-natured rivalry on the schedule, the excitement will continue to build until the Closing Ceremony on February 6th.
