Earlier in the week, a resident shared that she wasn’t sure whether she should register, unsure if appointments might keep her from competing. Encouraged by the Health and Wellness Director, Haley, to join in for whatever time she could, she decided to give it a try — and stayed just long enough to win gold, turning a moment of hesitation into a golden Games memory.

 Recap of Medal Ceremony

Competitors were joined at the Medal Ceremony by Christa C, Director of Operations and Partnerships/Social Media Manager from Ears to You who helped celebrate today’s champions. The award stage sparkled like the Emerald City as medals were presented and residents received their well‑earned applause. Cheers and laughter filled the room — a true “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” moment for our athletes.

Today was a reminder that sometimes all it takes is a click of your heels and willingness try. After the card games, the runner-up shared how proud she was of Gold Medalist Marion C., noting that Marion took an introverted risk, and it paid off. It was a moment that reminded everyone that the brightest magic often comes from within, no wand required.

At Sturgeon Creek II, 14 avid bocce bowlers battled for medals.  It was a stiff competition, and scores were consistently the lowest this reporter has seen in 14 years.

Today, there were no ties to be addressed to move forward to the play-off round, and spectators were delighted with more exceptional performances.  In the last round of the play-offs, the palina was the farthest down the court it had been all day, but true to SC II fashion, competitors rose to the challenge and showed off their abilities with some very significant throws.

Shuffleboard

Medal Athlete
Gold Harvey A
Silver Linda G
Bronze Dana I

At SC II, 16 shuffleboard players began the Senior Games tournament which would span 2 weeks of healthy competition.  Players, and cheerleaders, came faithfully to cheer on the competitors.

Today, the tournament concluded and medal winners were defined.

It never ceases to amaze me how quiet it can be in this tournament, which is not the norm – it is usually very boisterous.  Every good shot brings out loud shouts of glee, and every lesser shot brings out a throng of voices offering encouragement.  There is no doubt that there is team spirit here at SC II!!!

Recap of Medal Ceremony

Competitors were joined at the Medal Ceremony by Ally Klinck, from the Winnipeg Humane Society.  Ally was kind enough to have accompany her volunteer Tim and companion, Gordon, a pet therapy dog, who both helped celebrate today’s champions.

Ally K. was excited to be here with us today as she remembers from some years ago her grandmother living here at SCII.  It brought back some special memories for her.

Every match held its own small drama, with athletes showing patience, precision, and a determination that kept spectators watching closely.
