Today featured 2 great events at Preston Park II. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 15 Bocce players vying for medals! We were very impressed by their skill and talents, especially with plenty of first time Senior Games athletes taking to the stage! Later Floor Shuffleboard wizards glided their pucks toward the win. There were 21 residents who shot for the stars and three came up large with high points and higher spirits.
Gold Winner for Bocce, Dennis K., who has never competed in an event before told us, “It’s not so much about competition, but more about having fun with new found friends!”
Bocce Competitor and Bronze winner, Dale R., exclaimed after a hard battle for 3rd place, “Man, I could really use a refreshing……BEER!”

Today featured 2 great events at College Park 1 Retirement Residence. Our 4th day of the games started with Shuffleboard, one of our most popular games at our Residence. The Residents were packed in the games room ready to compete on their teams! Later, bridge, another all-time favorite game was played to determine the qualifiers for the playoffs in the afternoon.
Bridge is a very fun, easy card game to learn. It is enjoyed by players of all ages and makes a wonderful past time or competitive sport. At College Park Retirement Residence, players made strategic plays to get ahead of their components.

Residents who do not always participate in physical games have been active with the games all week. They have surely proved to themselves that they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to!

At SC II 14 eager bocce players filed into the dining room/bocce court to vie for medals this morning. As in every other event a hush fell over the area until after the first few balls were thrown. Then it was back to normal with cheering and clapping for all shots. What a wonderful support system for each and every player!!! No ties ensued after the round robin, and the top 6 scores moved into the play-off round, where victors were clearly defined. It was an all-round excellent show of bocce talent and sportsmanship.

At SC II today presented the culmination of a shuffleboard tournament that has lasted over 6 days of competition. We have been treated to some awesome shot making, cheering, and tons of fun and laughs. We entered the tournament with 16 players and today we had only the finals left. But in the truest sense of sportsmanship, all competitors turned out to cheer on the final participants. And as ever, the room overflowed with spectators and cheerleaders.

As we usually play bocce in the theatre and today for the games in the dining room, whispers could be heard amongst the players stating, “This court looks so much longer than usual!!”

We had 30 residents excited to take on Bocce Ball, with now two-time medalist Lesley winning Gold, Bern winning Silver, and Lynn taking home the Bronze
The games room was packed to watch the Billiards final – 9 residents and Romeo, our multi-talented Maintenance Director, participated in the round Robin.
Pat G and Romeo took home the Gold, Dick and Marylin took home silver, and Glenn and Jim won the Bronze.

Cedarcroft Place residents started their day off with an intense game of shuffleboard. As all her competitors cheered her on Wilma took home the gold by being the first resident to reach 75 points. After residents enjoyed a competitive game of bocce bal. “Easy does it!” Harley cheered, as his wife Betty threw the first bocce ball down the hallway … Harley was victorious securing the gold!
In the afternoon residents played a game of pin-the -lemon on the tree while enjoying a snack of lemon pudding. Residents were then joined by One Care who presented their medals for the day congratulating the residents on all their hard work.

Fun Fact: Shuffleboard was invented in the 1400s. In England, people there played a game called “Shovegroat”, which involved sliding a large silver coin, called a “grot” down a table.

Today we could feel all the energy, the residents are happy and having a lot of fun during this period of competition. At the residence de la Gappe phase 1, here, we can see the mutual aid and support between the residents, everyone cares about each other and encourages each other enormously. What’s more, they show up in large numbers and are always on hand. We take the time to let all the residents play who want to, so sometimes there are delays, we had to make the throw number 3 and number 4 on the same turn to manage to make all the shots.
Daily Fun Fact:
We have a couple in residence at La Gappe, Mrs. is in phase 3 and Mr. is in phase 1 with us. Mrs. is accompanying her husband to help him adapt to his new environment. In phase 1 we made an agreement with Mrs. to let her play with us to reinforce her sense of belonging to us. Some of the residents teased Mrs., saying that she would have to move here because she liked us so much. We teased each other!

Aujourd’hui nous pouvions sentir tout l’énergie, les résidents sont heureux et s’amuser beaucoup durant cette période de compétitions. À la résidence de la Gappe phase 1, ici, nous pouvons voir l’entraide et le support entre les résidents, tous se préoccupe les uns des autres et s’encourage énormément. De plus, il se présente en grand nombre ils sont au rendez-vous. Nous prenons le temps de faire jouer tous les résidents qui le désire, alors parfois il y a du retard, nous avons dû faire le lancer numéro 3 et numéro 4 sur le même tour pour arriver à faire tous les coups.
Fait amusant du jour :
Nous avons un couple à la résidence de la Gappe qui sont résident Mme. est à la phase 3 et M est à la phase 1 avec nous, Mme accompagne son conjoint pour qu’il s’adapter à son nouveau milieu. A la phase 1 nous avions pris une entente avec Mme pour à laisser jouer avec nous pour renforcir son sentiment d’appartenance avec nous. Quelques résidents ont taquiné Mme soi-disant qu’elle devra déménager ici puisqu’elle va trop nous aimé. On s’est bien taquiner !

This morning our residents were very excited to start the competition day and wanted to win a medal – great day! We had an incredible 30 people turn out for the games today. New residents met old and it was amazing to see what a good time everyone had.
Today, our Chefs de Mission Huguette M and Cécile A presented the medals. Lemon, life is beautiful.
