September 7, 2017 – At All Seniors Care Living Centres, we are committed to the belief that the use of outdoor space has a major impact on healthy quality of life. Originally created as a “Toonie for Trees” collection to help restore mental and physical well-being for the families of Fort McMurray through the creation of age friendly green space once re-building began. With donations raised hitting $10,000 the initiative has been renamed to the “Tree of Hope” and will become a symbol of growth and strength to everyone dealing with rebuilding their lives.

Over the past year the Fort McMurray area has experienced an increase in suicide rates, as a result The Canadian Mental Health Association Wood Buffalo District will host this ceremony to announce their Suicide Prevention initiatives. The School Board has been strong supporters of this initiative and have approved the location of the tree planting as well as committing to the ongoing care for the tree. A special smudging, drumming and prayer ceremony is planned to commemorate the planting of this Tree of Hope.
