A music-making program that connects seniors and tots is generating a heartwarming outcome.

HAMILTON – On May 23rd, a group of Little Rebels arrived at Summit Heights Retirement Residence, bringing joyful music and a youthful energy that spread happiness and laughter throughout the building.

This heartwarming event was the result of a collaboration between All Seniors Care and Little Rebels Music and Development, aiming to bring seniors and preschoolers together for a unique social and musical experience.

Join us on Monday, June 17, 2024, to experience this inspiring program firsthand.

“It is a joy to see how much impact the children and their families have on our residents,” said Martina Iwanchuk, Health & Wellness Director at Summit Heights. “The delight the babies brought, and the willingness with which they invite everyone to participate was pure bliss!”

The Little Rebels curriculum, carefully crafted by Jennifer Neales, Owner and Creative, caters to kids from 2 months to 5 years old. The aim is to encourage cognitive learning, muscle development, play, and confidence—benefits that easily translate across the lifespan, providing a valuable experience for older adults in retirement residences.

Denise Myers, the Lifestyle Director at the All Seniors Care community, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We have a lady here who has been going through a great deal of loss lately. It was a joy to see how the program touched her heart and put a smile on her face. To see her engage with the kids and moms put a smile on everyone’s face!”

Intergenerational programs foster well-being across generations as children and older adults interact and exchange knowledge and skills. The toddlers’ visit specifically offered the community’s residents an opportunity to enjoy music with the little ones, sing harmoniously, play instruments, and get physically active.

Local seniors, parents/guardians, and tots are invited to move and groove with the next Intergenerational Music Class. The class incorporates song—Broadway, Motown, and Rock ‘n’ Roll-inspired tunes—movement, balls, shakers, and a parachute to get everyone involved, and is guaranteed to uplift people of all ages!
