Good times and memories were happening across the country on Day 2 of the 2017 All Seniors Care Seniors Games with over 800 athletes competing in various events at retirement communities from Edmonton to Gatineau. Our feature competitions on Day 2 were Wii Bowling and Archery where competitors pushed for personal bests. At RRI in Winnipeg, first timer Don L. stepped up to the competition and walked away with a silver medal in Archery and observed: “I can’t believe I won, I thought I might do ok at bowling because I used to bowl, but I couldn’t do anything right… I guess I’m more Robin Hood than Fred Flintstone!” While at Chapel Hill in Ottawa, Gold and Silver Medal Winners are Husband and Wife who at the end of this month will be married 68 years!
In St. Albert residents were a little camera shy this afternoon for the playoffs as Global TV News was on site filming the Games. Everyone had a great time though and all the ladies made sure to wear their lipstick. When it was her turn, resident Alice stood up, walked to the centre of the room, positioned herself and her walker for her first throw then looked at the camera, looked over at me with a wink and said “ahhh heck, I’ll be the first one to botch this up on TV… but at least I’ll look good doing it.”
At Preston Park I in Saskatoon longtime resident and 2017 Gold Medalist Len H. exclaimed: “Great job to everyone who participated in Wii bowling today. The turnout was the best I have seen in years.” And a little further south at College Park II in Regina, the mood was festive as Gold Medalist Art W. joked: “I think my opponent eased up on me! She has beat me every game for the last two years!” National medals will be presented during Closing Ceremonies on Friday.
The Seniors Games are part of the All Seniors Care commitment to providing seniors with innovative ways to enjoy active and healthy lifestyle. Spectators are always welcome! Upcoming activities include billiards and Bocce on Wednesday, Wii Golf and Shuffleboard on Thursday, and ending with Card/ Board games and Closing Ceremony celebrations on Friday.
