CANADA – The yellow brick road was shining on Thursday, February 5, as the fourth day of the 17th Annual ASC Seniors Games delivered a full slate of fan-favourite competitions, community connection, and medal moments.
Athletes from All Seniors Care Living Centres across the country stepped up to the challenge in bocce and shuffleboard, two sports that demand focus and just the right touch. With cues lined up and bocce balls rolling, competitors showed that experience and strategy never go out of style. Bronze Medalist, Pat A beamed and said, “This week has been so much fun. I never really participated in these games until now because I did not realize how fun they were. And it has helped me meet new people and create new friendships!”
True to the There’s no place Like Our Home Oz-inspired theme, the day was about confidence, clever play, and a little bit of magic. Cheers echoed through the halls as residents encouraged one another shot by shot, proving once again that these Games are as much about camaraderie as competition. During the medal ceremony this afternoon one resident commented “My heart’s desire of being together and feeling the warm energy of a community is right here in my own home”. What a blessing that is!”
Adding to the excitement, not-for-profit organizations joined the festivities, sharing information, engaging with residents, and helping celebrate the spirit of giving back. With medals proudly awarded to athletes whose performances stood out on the lane and at the table, the energetic day ended with a much needed evening of movies and rest.
The Closing Ceremonies of the 17th Annual ASC Seniors Games take place tomorrow, and all are invited to join the celebration. Dignitaries will be in attendance as we recognize the achievements, sportsmanship, and spirit shown throughout the week, culminating in the announcement and presentation of the National Medal winners. It’s a fitting finale to an unforgettable Games—filled with pride, applause, and a little Wizard of Oz magic.
