EDMONTON, CALGARY, REGINA, SASKATOON, BRANDON, WINNIPEG, STRATFORD, OTTAWA AND GATINEAU – In March we kicked off Canada’s 150th Birthday celebration early with our Canadian Musicians National Event and then created Inspiration Villages across the country on April 19th. Residents spent the day creating dreamcatchers, doing Inuit print making, and experiencing the Aboriginal art of Drumming and its related ceremonies and teachings. Our theatres were alive with inspirational Fable videos courtesy of the National Film Board of Canada.
River Ridge I Retirement Residence’s Director of Health and Wellness, Leslie F., observed; “The morning started off with a bang at River Ridge I, as the Buffalo Gals drumming group joined Rachel Legace, co-host of CTV’s Morning Live in Winnipeg.” Early rising tenants and CTV viewers to help us kick off our Canada 150 Inspiration Village celebration of indigenous cultures – arms were moving, bodied swaying and voices joined to new songs and sounds! A long line of tenants formed to take part in the ceremonial smudge where we learned the use of safe smoke: to cleanse our eyes to see better; our mouths to speak positively; our ears to listen cleanly; and, our hearts to be open and free of negativity a true cleansing of the senses. Once complete, we said meegwetch (thank you) to our ancestors.
Our next national celebration is scheduled for the Mother’s Day weekend in May where we will be hosting a special “Royal Mother’s Day Tulip Brunch”. For event information in your city please contact Ronna Goldberg, at 204.232.8495 or by email at rgoldberg@allseniorscare.com
