A message from our Chef de Mission, Dorothy Z.

I’ve only lived here for about two years, and when I first moved in, I didn’t know many people. But because of the Seniors Games, that quickly changed.

Through the Games, I met people who became my friends and honestly, if these Games hadn’t happened, I might not have met many of you at all. I’m so grateful for that.

These Games remind us that home isn’t just a place. It’s the people we connect with and the friendships we build along the way.

So please raise your glass with me. To friendship, to community, and to calling this place home.

I’m proud to declare the 2026 All Seniors Care Seniors Games officially open.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed walking our Yellow Brick road hallway, accompanied by the lively piano music, provided by Tim Elliott. Residents were cheered on by staff and fellow residents as they walked. When Mr. N completed an impressive 10 laps of the hallways, he was met with cheers and applause from fellow residents.

Our residents made us smile today, especially Liliane H., who showed lots of courage, engaging with fellow residents, and encouraging them to get up and walk!

Recap of Opening Ceremony:

Athletes and volunteers gathered for the Opening Ceremony, joined by esteemed guests from the community, business sector, and government. Dignitaries included His Worship Mayor Martin Ritsma, Mayor of Stratford.

Mayor Ritsma extended his congratulations and well-wishes to the participants. His words of encouragement set the perfect tone for an exciting week ahead.

In a moment of pure mirth, our Chef de Mission, Margaret L, told Mayor Ritsma, “McCarthy Place is like a cruise ship: you get your meals, housekeeping and lots of fun and entertaining things to do!” The Mayor stated he can’t wait to move in!

 Oakville Estates Retirement Residence

At Oakville Estates Retirement Residents, 50 walkers and rollers set off on their own Yellow Brick Road adventure, challenging themselves to see how far they could go.

Kailee, our rock and roll leader sported her own “yellow brick road” outfit as she rocked yellow sunglasses, pom poms and Canadian Flags as she danced through the hallways.

While Veronica L shook her hips to the talented live musician Victor Morgado, residents waved their flags as we marched the halls and walking path (our own yellow brick road) creating an infectious energy of enthusiasm as the “new folks” entering the ASC Senior Games here in Oakville, Ontario!

Recap of Opening Ceremony:

Carol C, our Chef warmed our hearts and the opening ceremony with an impromptu speech sharing her ongoing positivity and support for the games as she urged us to not only participate but win in our games this week.

Athletes and volunteers gathered for the Opening Ceremony, joined by esteemed guests. We welcomed Hannah Silver, Vice President of Health & Wellness and our new Executive Chef, Christopher Robertson. They extended their congratulations and well wishes to the participants.

The words of encouragement sent by Governor General Mary Simon, and Prime Minister Mark Carney set the perfect tone for an exciting week ahead.

Unfortunately, our Fire Department of Oakville representatives were unable to make it today as they were called to an emergency at the time of our activities, but we send both our gratitude and ongoing support for their hard work in the Oakville community.

With the Games officially open, everyone at Oakville Estates is looking forward to the week ahead. You can feel the excitement in the air! Residents ended our Opening Ceremony by cheering our home cheer “AS-CG! Let’s go! O-E!”

Day 1: Awakening and Team Spirit

The event begins with our opening ceremony, featuring a parade of mission leaders and assistants, and speeches by dignitaries. The first precision events begin, such as the non-competitive walk.

Afternoon: Time for moderate endurance and strategy challenges. We also have our pétanque tournament and the beanbag toss, which promote concentration and teamwork.

At Résidence de la Gappe phase 1, we had 45 walkers and rollers set off on their own Yellow Brick Road adventure, challenging themselves to see how far they could go.

When resident Mrs. S. came down with her walker covered in logos from her “walking sponsors” it set the stage for a fun-filled event.  Résidence de la Gappe phase 1 took on the Walk & Roll course 10 times, proving that enthusiasm for the Games is alive and well at our Résidence de la Gappe. Building pride is in full motion this week!
