The room was packed this morning. Our cheer team, the “Aspenettes” lined up to start the competition off with a cheer and off we went! Watching in anticipation our crowd was at the edge of their seats all mornings, pom-poms in hands cheering everyone on. With many games to play, our athletes did great keeping up their fighting spirit!
Fun Fact: We had three times as many women compete as men today!

We had such a great turn out for Bean Bag Toss; the cheering was inspiring everyone’s best performances. Dale said, “Don’t butter me up too much or I’ll start slipping,” on the way to his Gold Medal win!

The morning got going with an energetic bunch of competitors and spectators for Bean Bag Toss. We had one bag hit the lights. “Many people miss the holes on the bean bag board, but not everyone can land one in the light fixture.” Resident Barb S. said as we called for reception to get a ladder. ????
Afterwards, it was nothing but amazing scores and plenty of cheering. Our top three winners went into the playoffs feeling both hopeful and nervous. In the end, it was a great morning!
The Residents had a blast this afternoon pitching their shots at our Pétanque board. Many cheers and great scores were had, including a whopping 111 score thrown by Brenda!

Today anticipation and high energy levels were in the air for the start of the 2024 All Seniors Care Games! Residents were eager to begin the qualifier rounds for Bean Bags & Pétanque Atout! Residents fueled themselves with s’more bite snacks during a break in play. Dawn Z exclaimed, “Those snacks were delicious! That’s all I needed, now I am re-energized for the next round of games!”
Overall, everyone displayed incredible skills and positive encouragement to one another.

Our games started off strong with a packed bistro and more residents requesting to join the games. We had a large turnout of competitors and spectators for both Petanque Atout and Bean Bag Toss. Everyone cheered each other on by name and using noise makers. Our bistro was packed and full of joy!
The care floor of College Park II joined the games in a BIG WAY today. With Louis participating in bean bag toss as our assistant and an athlete. As well as Dorothy W & Marlene P taking home Gold and Silver in Petanque Atout.

The morning got off to an excellent start as shots were made, others missed, but in the end the Round Robin produced 31 players on the board. We then went straight into our playoff round, with the top 8 athletes from our round robin competing! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Mrs. Gerry.W. had the highest score during the round robin of pétanque with a score of 62. Six athletes competed for medals! There was so much excitement in the air!
During our playoff round of bean bag toss we had 2 athletes tied for second place! The battles for medals were fierce and super close today!

Fun moments during the day:
Bean Bag Toss competitor Harry Yapps exclaimed: “If only scoring was the same as shuffleboard! Because I would have had a hanger!” All the athletes laughed at Harry’s witty comment!
Pétanque competitor Jeannie Kostick exclaimed “Holly Molly is the board ever far away”! Our athletes had a good laugh after hearing Jeannie’s comment.

The round robin was so competitive, we almost had a four-way tie for third place in the game of bean bag toss. Mrs. Leonie O. scored just enough points in the final round to move up and win the bronze medal! Pétanque atout, on the other hand, was a very close game. A lot of our athletes went back and forth rolling double points.
Fun Fact: One of our residents threw overhand instead of underhand during the game of bean bag toss and scored 600pts!

We had many laughs along the way, most importantly the peer support of the competitors and the cheerleaders shone through. In fact, between the competitors and the cheerleaders, the theatre was full to almost overflowing. What a way to start the week of competition!!

At Sturgeon Creek II 16 pétanque competitors filed into the theatre for a battle royale to see who would take the medals, and maybe have a chance to bring home a National Medal! Once again, the theatre was full to the brim, while all shared the enthusiasm of the “friendly” competition. We were treated to a tiebreaker to see who advanced to the finals. When all was said and done, only 1 point separated the gold and silver medalists!!
It was great to see people who had never won medals before coming out victorious, and even sweeter to see the sheer joy on their faces when presented with the medals!! What an inspiration to all to come and join in the fun and excitement.
Competitors made their way to the dining room this afternoon for the first medal ceremony of the week. Games Assistant Lori F. presented the medals for the bean bag toss winners, followed by Solange M., Games Assistant, presenting the medals to the pétanque winners.

We had 28 residents competing and cheering on other residents. It was Brian’s first time playing Pétanque and he won the gold!
In a show of great sportsmanship, Stuart called out to Brian as he was about to through the pétanque ball, “Let’s go for gold buddy!”
The morning got off to an excellent start. Resident competed in an intense game of Pétanque. The cheering was so loud you could hear it throughout the building. Next, the residents competed in a game of cornhole it was a close call, but Stuart secured the gold. In the afternoon, our residents enjoyed a game of toss the lemon followed by a medal presentation by the United Way. Our residents finished the afternoon with a yummy lemon tart to reward all their hard work.

Competitors received their medals in the dining room for a personal touch ceremony. They were very appreciative!

The morning started with the sandbag qualifiers, the residents were very excited, and we 30 participants. We allowed all the players present to qualify, so we had the final with the 6 best players. You could feel the excitement in the air. Three women will be crowned this afternoon at the medal ceremony!
This afternoon we have 28 players for the pétanque, a lot of fun!

The competition was very close between two residents, Mr. Tonino and Mr. Bigras. Mr. Bigras, who made two bad throws and saw his qualification slip away, quickly said to Mr. Tonino, “There will be no lemon without bitterness…”.

La matinée à commencer avec les qualifications de sac de sables, Le résidents étaient bien excité et nous avions beaucoup de participants 30. Nous avons permis à tous les joueurs présents de se qualifier, ainsi nous avons eu la final avec 6 meilleurs joueurs. Nous pouvions sentir la fébrilité chez chacun d’en eux. 3 femmes seront couronnées cette après midi a la remise des médailles.
Fait amusant du jour :
Exemple : La compétions étant très serré entre deux résidents soit M Tonino et M Bigras et M Bigras qui a fait deux mauvais lancer et qui vois sa qualification s’envoler a vite dit à M Tonino “Il n’y aura pas de citron sans amertume…”

Les concurrents ont été rejoints lors de la cérémonie de remise des médailles par DG- Joanne Charette, qui ont participé à la félicitation des athlètes gagnants pour leurs performances.
Nous avons ici une dame qui se nom Côté et un monsieur Coté, comme Mr Côté a fait plus de point quand j’ai appelé M Coté pour jouer Madame ses levé, elle a dit j’ai beaucoup plus de chance avec ses points, c’est Côté mon nom… Les gens se sont bien exclamés de rire.

I have a resident who has never won a medal in his life and when he found out that he was the winner, he said to us, “This is the only medal I have ever won in my life.” The look on his face was inexplicable, we all laughed heartily with him, and people were moved. what a beautiful moment.

Fait amusant du jour :
J’ai un résident qui n’a jamais gagné de médaille de sa vie et quand il a su que c’étail lui le gagnant, là il nous a dit C’est la seule médaille de ma vie que j’ai gagné son expression sur son visage est inexplicable, on a tous rit de bon coeur avec lui les gens était émeu. Quel beau moment.

The games got off to a good start, with 30 players eagerly looking forward to the qualifiers, many of them going for the medals.
Daily Fun Fact:
I have a resident who has never won a medal in his life and when he found out that he was the winner, he said to us, “This is the only medal I have ever won in my life.” The look on his face was inexplicable, we all laughed heartily with him, and people were moved. what a beautiful moment.
Competitors were joined at the award ceremony by ED Helene Lirette who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
Funnily enough, our Mr Simard was distracted today and couldn’t remember when it was his turn, so it was funny when he realized it was his turn.

Les jeux ont bien démarré, avec 30 joueurs impatients de participer aux éliminatoires, beaucoup d’entre eux visant les médailles…
Fait amusant du jour :
J’ai un résident qui n’a jamais gagné de médaille de sa vie et quand il a su que c’étail lui le gagnant, là il nous a dit C’est la seule médaille de ma vie que j’ai gagné son expression sur son visage est inexplicable, on a tous rit de bon coeur avec lui les gens était émeu. Quel beau moment.

The morning got off to an excellent start. We were very impressed by everyone’s skill and talents! Mr. Trudeau got 500 three times in a row at the bean bag toss with his precision throws!
The residents and the families enjoy the lemon puns and joke that we have posted all over Château Symmes. We can here theme retail the jokes to their loved ones and laugh. It is very heart warming.
Competitors were joined at the award ceremony by Ray Mainville our limo driver, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
Gold Medalist Joy Orange exclaimed: “Omg I never win! This is our day” she said to Réjane B, the bronze medalist. Well done, Bons Hommes!

It was a full house in the Games Room and Bistro for the Bean Bag Toss and Pétanque competition. The roaring and cheering could be heard from everywhere in the residence and there were plenty of high 5’s to go around! Congratulations to all of our participants today!
