Today started off with a riveting game of Jeopardy! Our residents really know their stuff! Team vs Team battling it out for the medals during this very competitive game against wits. Jeopardy Pro John R. proved that novelty socks are still in fashion! Keep an eye on our Facebook page to catch a glimpse!
Later, the anticipation was palpable as 15 players took to the tables and spread out their cards for a cryptic game of luck that EVERYONE enjoys – Bingo!!
Competitors were joined at the award ceremony by the entire Management team. Our special guest Constable Lavictoire, Community Liaison, had to excuse himself from the ceremony, so Executive Director Barbara Thorne awarded the medals. Our resident Art F. gave a very moving closing speech in which thanked the staff, especially Health and Wellness Director, Maddi Thauberger, and her aids and volunteers for being so involved and hardworking to make this event so enjoyable.
Athletes and Volunteers were joined by a few visitors in our community such as invitees from the CRM like Leon and Leda, Gladys and Winnie. Renowned bagpiper Jeanie Hawes whose presence was gratefully appreciated with the emotional and hypnotic sounds of Celtic ancestry. Executive Director Barbara Thorne led the Canadian Anthem.

Later, the anticipation was palpable as 35 players took to the tables and spread out their cards for a cryptic game of luck that everyone enjoys – BINGO! Fun fact: Auburn Heights residents enjoy playing Bingo online! Did you know the largest Bingo game in history took place in Jacksonville, Florida with a staggering 600.000 players!

Later, the anticipation was palpable as 20 players took to the tables and spread out their cards for a cryptic game of luck that everyone enjoys – BINGO! A Tie had to be broken for our first-place winners with a nail-biting game of four corners!
A thrilled Silver Medalist, Pat A, exclaimed: “I never win at Bingo, but here I am!”
Lilly W., our 100 year-young resident, had a fabulous bingo game with two separate wins! She normally doesn’t play but could help but sign up for the healthy competition!

Once the medalists were determined, the Residents participated in the closing ceremonies to say goodbye to the 2024 ASCSGs.

They are hoping to see this format in our regular bingo programming!

At this year’s Games, we had 2 Husband & Wife Medal Winners. WOW – They really cleaned up! George has won 3 medals and wife Sarah won a medal as well. They either played or attended every game! Not to be outdone, Les won a gold earlier in the week (he played almost every game this week while his wife cheered him on. Today, they both played Bingo & his wife won Bev gold!

This was our first-time playing bingo for the Games and it went very well!
Mrs. Dorothy S who usually doesn’t join our regular Bingo program, ended up winning our very first game! She steadfastly maintains that she will only play Bingo for the ASC Games. Time will tell whether we can temp her…

Mr. Justin A, who won the gold medal for Ladder Ball, won a Silver National Medalist. He was so happy, and he couldn’t wait to show it to his daughter when she visits later this week! At SC II, 12 trivia buffs vied for the last medals of the games. They were attended by a following of cheerleaders, who were very quiet and attentive. All competitors appreciated an all-Canadian Jeopardy!! A gold medal winner was established at the end of the game, but we came up with a 4-way tie for silver. Play-off rounds took place, and after the first round we were down to 2 players, who battled it out for the silver and bronze medals. A true “photo finish” for the last event of the games!!!

At SC II, the dining room/bingo hall welcomed 25 avid bingo players. Once everyone was settled in, a “bingo” hush fell over the room and play began. Unlike other events, bingo is relatively quiet and you could see the concentration on players’ faces. Play ensued with 5 games that were familiar to
SC II regulars, and the newcomers caught on quickly. Bingo will be the only event where the medal winners were not announced on the spot—everyone is going to have to sleep on it and wait until the closing ceremony and final medal presentation to find out who the bingo queens or kings will be!!!
Daily Fun Fact: Our bingo games assistant was the first to shout out “Bingo!!”—and no—it wasn’t a set up!!

Our morning began with an intense game of Trivia followed by a relaxing chair yoga session. At Cedarcroft Place we had 9 residents battling it out for the medals.
Our residents were then pipped into the dining room by Stratford Police Pipe Band member, Dan Johnsons.
Competitors were joined at the award ceremony by Mayor Martin Ritzma and MP John Nater, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
Residents then enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with musical entertainment to end the week with the band Keys & Strings.

Today featured Jeopardy at Summit Heights. In the morning it was a great battle for medals during friendly games of Jeopardy. It was a Super Jeopardy with contestants going wit-to-wit.
Competitors were joined at the award ceremony by Deputy Mayor Ted McMeekin and Lisa Maychak the Project Manager for an ageless Friendly City who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.

At Château Symmes, 21 players it out for the medals. We were very impressed by everyone’s quick wit! Later, the anticipation was palpable as the musician was getting ready to start the show.

Everyone at Château Symmes appreciated the events of this week and are eager for next year’s events! Mary Lou S exclaimed: “It’s too bad it over I liked the special lemon snacks this week!” We did too, Mary Lou! ????

The residents are very happy to have the two new disciplines today, we started the day with the Quiz, Jeopardy, that the residents were looking forward to with excitement. Mrs. Blackney and Mrs. Tremblay’s competition became quite serious, they were fighting for gold, and this was obvious to all the spectators. Bingo went well and the winner’s luck prevailed. We had a lot of residents shouting bingo at the same time, and we could feel the excitement.

Les résidents sont très contents d’avoir les deux nouvelles disciplines d’aujourd’hui, nous avons commencé la journée avec le Quiz, Jeopardy les résidents attendaient ce moment avec excitation. Mme Blackney et Mme Tremblay font de la compétition est devenu assez sérieuse, elle se batte pour l’or et ceci était perceptible dans tous les spectateurs. Et pour finir aucune n’a gagner ! Le Bingo a bien été, mais c’était difficile pour les résidents de bien comprendre le principe.
Fait amusant du jour :
On a éprouvé beaucoup de plaisir ce matin au bingo comme on continuait sur la même carte pour faire les ligne nous avions beaucoup de résidents qui criaient bingo en même temps ont pouvais sentir l’excitement, les résident ont beaucoup apprécie.

Les athlètes et les bénévoles ont été rejoints par des dignitaires de la communauté, du monde des affaires et du gouvernement lors de la cérémonie de clôture. Nous avons célébré l’optimisme et la détermination de tous ceux qui ont participé à notre semaine de plaisir et de compétition amicale intitulée “Quand la vie vous donne des citrons, faites de la limonade”.
Les Jeux étant officiellement terminés, tout le monde à Résidence de la Gappe Phase 1 est impatient de se préparer pour la 16e édition annuelle des Jeux.

When a resident asked us if we had received the results for the National Medals. We made them believe that we would only have them next week. We kept the surprise until the closing cere Silver and Bronze Medalist Mrs. Philipps and Mrs. Costa were very happy and surprise! mony of the games. The residents were so happy. Especially the winners!
