The 2020 All Seniors Care Seniors Games are underway and our athletes are looking forward to the week of competition. This annual event is part of the commitment made by the team at All Seniors Care Living Centres to help maintain active and healthy lifestyles throughout the years at our beautiful retirement communities. All events are held indoors, and several thousand older adults will enjoy the fun and friendly competition.

Auburn Heights Retirement Residence
Auburn Heights has their ASCSG 2020 opening ceremony. The day started with our rock & roll walk we had a large group of seniors who walked all five floors including one of our seniors who is 98 years old! Great job everyone.
Sage Hill Retirement Residence
It’s official! This morning we officially declared the 2020 11th annual All Seniors Care Seniors Games open! We were honoured to be joined by Joshua Kuhl, our Senior Executive VP: Operations, The Honourable Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing, the Honourable Leela Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, MLA Jason Luan, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addiction and Greg Hartzler, Chief of Staff, on behalf of City Councillor Joe Magliocca for our Opening Ceremony! Following that, our residents participated in our Non-Competitive Hallway Walk & Roll, and enjoyed meeting Cst Steve Kelly, our Community Resource Officer for District 7, passing out water and greetings to our athletes! Our residents were treated to entertainment by Fine Traditions, a talented east coast duo in the morning and The Rockin’ 58’s, a great swing rock and doo wop band in the afternoon! Lewis Estates Retirement Residence
At Lewis Estates Retirement Residence, we started our day with 53 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Olive J. walk all 4 floors 3 times which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Lewis Estates Retirement Residence have towards the Games. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. Following this MLA Jon Carson wished the residents well by singing his own “favourite things” traditions song with his own special traditions during his remarks at our opening ceremony. The residents were thrilled with his clever lyrics and gave him a huge round of applause.” The 2020 Seniors Games at Lewis Estates Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Kay W, as she welcomed all guests and participants. This afternoon was the time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, where Footnotes Dance Studio taught us the moves to our own break dance routine. Kay W. reminisced on her family tradition of all gathering together at her mother’s place on a Sunday night with her thirteen siblings and their spouses for a family home cooked meal.”
St. Albert Retirement Residence
What a FANTASTIC start to our All Senior Care Senior Games here at St. Albert Retirement Residence. This morning the children from our neighboring school Lois Hole were excited to hand out water to our athletes as they ‘Walked the Halls’. were honoured to have special guests, Mayor Cathy Heron, MLA Serle Turton and RCMP Constable Jennifer Fraser to give us special greetings. The theme of our ASCSG this year is ‘Traditions’, each special guest did a wonderful job telling a ‘tradition’ of their family that they hold dear to them. It was so fun to have Constable Jennifer Fraser join us in the afternoon for our Opening Ceremonies Dance, she was not shy to join in on the dance floor and told us she will be back this week to watch the friendly competition! With the Games officially open everyone at St. Albert Retirement Residence is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. You can feel the excitement in the air!
Laurel Heights Retirement Residence
At Laurel Heights, we had 60 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. It was great to see so many of our residents try and complete the walk on all four floors! We had Dr. Kathryn Todd, Nicole Whitaker and the crew from Fire Hall #26 walking with the residents to encourage and read traditions along the way. Marjory F., one of our residents, exclaimed that the Opening Ceremonies were a great success! Fire Hall #26 were the tough competitors to beat when the VIP’s tried their hand at Pétanque atout. It was neck in neck with two firefighters holding a tie at 14 points each. Finally, a winner is declared as one brave, strong firefighter pulled ahead and took this friendly competition to open the ASC Seniors Games! The crowds cheered and the enthusiasm spread as all looked forward to the games throughout the week. Frank Cheple, Chef de Mission, Resident of Laurel Heights, officially open The Games and everyone at Laurel Heights are looking forward to the week ahead of competition. Rutherford Heights Retirement Residence
Bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed is how Rutherford Residents started their day with a little more pep in their step’ as the excitement mounted in anticipation of the opening ceremony. We had grade two students from Roberta Mac Adams at the water tables cheering while offering encouragement to the 44+ residents who participated in the walk and roll! Efforts rewarded afterward with music from Jackson McKenzie, followed by the much-anticipated break dance demonstration! The camaraderie and group spirit were deeply moving as family, residents and staff encouraged one another. The 2020 Seniors Games at Rutherford Heights was in good company with Thomas Dang our MLA for Edmonton South and Brad Rutherford the MLA for Leduc and Beaumont as our guest speakers. A big thank you to our Chef du Mission, Anna Marie who gave the toast. As we embark on our eleventh annual seniors’ game, we look forward to sharing the team sprit at Rutherford Heights and remembering Traditions such as: Picking raspberries from the garden and making jam with the berries, or On Christmas Eve we would wear new pajamas and watch a movie as a family.
MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence
At MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence we started our day with Break Dancing, as ‘The Britz’ performed to a room full of eager residents. After lunch, we had 30 walkers determined to walk all four floors and receive their stickers. We had residents determined to wheel themselves on all 4 floors, and saw many independent residents assisting residents that needed more help to complete the challenge. At our opening ceremonies, we belted out our Traditions song, and had many guests join in with us. The 2020 Seniors Games at MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Mr. Willi V. as he welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating all the athletes on their performances: The Honourable Grant Hunter, Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction; MLA Lori Sigurdson, Critic for Seniors and Housing; MLA Thomas Dang; Sandy Lauder, Vice President Human Resources All Seniors Care; Barbara, Maryann & Maureen, members of SWESA; Terri & Annette, Pharmacare representatives. One of our residents, who is Scottish, was emotional hearing the bagpiper play as this is a huge tradition.
Summerwood Village Retirement Residence
At Summerwood Village, we had 45 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had residents that were not feeling 100% yet tried their best to complete the challenge. The enthusiasm for the walk and roll spread to other residents. We had 10 residents join in on the walk and roll after seeing so many other residents gather in the lobby. Our water table volunteer, Kathy Blink, from the Sherwood Park 55 + Club, had connections to many residents that were previous members of the club. Many residents stopped and chatted with her, with a few making a special effort to connect with her. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by Nate Glubish, Member of Legislature of Alberta; Linton Delainey, City Councillor; Bill Tomita, City Councillor; and, Robert Park, City Councillor. With the Games officially open everyone at Summerwood Village is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. There was banter between City Councillor Bill Tomita and our Chef de Mission, Mervyn Hicks, regarding Summerwood Village’s Tradition song after the residents sang it. Councillor asked what Hogmanay was. Our Chef de Mission explained that it is the New Year in Scotland. Everyone smiled or laughed in response.
Preston Park I Retirement Residence
At Preston Park I Retirement Residence, we started our day with 65 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Russ and Jean were in big competition to see who could walk the most floors to collect the most stickers! They tied by earning 9 stickers each to showcase walking the floors 9 times. The 2020 Seniors Games at Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Lenora as she welcomed guests, athletes and showcased the Preston Park torch! We had the honour to be in attendance The Honourable Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and her Honourable Donna Mirasty, Inspector Larry Vols, Constable Jeff Nightingale, Sergeant Dean Leebrick, Lorraine Holtslander Graduate Program Chair Professor from the University of Saskatchewan College of Nursing and 4th year nursing students Anna Lu, Shukri Mohamed, Stephanie Issac, Rhyan LaRouche, Steve Hall and Nicole Rappin. We have been working hard on our TRADITIONS song for months and had a great time showing off our song to our special guests! The Honourable Lieutenant Governor, Russ Mirasty shared his traditions of enjoying locally sourced wild rice at every Christmas and Thanksgiving when he gathers with his family and was further quoted as saying: “Traditions bind families together!”
Preston Park II Retirement Residence
At Preston Park 2, we started our day with 30 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Dick Strayer walk all 6 floors which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Preston Park 2 have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. The is was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as the Wes Froese performed to the delight of all in attendance. Of special note: Residents Doreen and Barry were seen in the coffee lounge practicing their “Break Dancing” before the opening ceremony.” The 2020 Seniors Games at Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Ms. Agnus P as she welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, The Honourable Russ Mirasty and Her Honour, Donna Mirasty. As well as police Inspector Larry Vols. With the Games officially open everyone at Preston Park 2 is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. Part of the Game experience is using the theme to learn more about each other and we sure did that when resident Helen exclaimed: “My favourite family tradition was when our family would soak a plum pudding with brandy and light it on fire as we paraded it around the living room”.
College Park I Retirement Residence
At College Park Retirement Residence, we started our day with 68 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Residents have been practicing walking the hallways for months, eager to walk all 4 floors and achieve all 4 stickers. many of which accomplished the goal!” We had Gladys Wunderlich walk all 4 floors 2 times which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at College Park have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week. Then there was time to enjoy ourselves, as Musical Al entertained and danced for us. The 2020 Seniors Games at College Park Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Ms. Amber MacLeod as she welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances. Christine Tell, Minister of Corrections and Policing Minister and Corey Lindskog, Inspector of Regina Police.
The theme this year is Traditions – and resident Brenda E. shared “Camping and family games were a blast; this week will bring me back to the past!”
College Park II Retirement Residence
At College Park 2, we started our day with 58 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Lynne J. take her dog, Molly, for the Non-competitive Walk & Roll. Even Molly collected all the stickers from the walk. We enjoy being a pet friendly residence. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. Then it was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as Aaron, Renns, and Lawrence from Vibes YQR gave a mind blowing breakdance performance, as we joked “don’t try this at home”! The 2020 Seniors Games at College Park 2 Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Kay Dielschneider, as she welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by dignitaries MLA Christine Tell and Inspector Corey Lindskog, who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances. Everyone at College Park II is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. Resident Chuck having competed in previous years, exclaimed, “this is always a great show every year, it makes you feel young again”.
Victoria Landing Retirement Residence
At Victoria Landing, we started our day with 42 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Mr. Art B. at 99 years old stated “nothing is going to stop me from walking all four floors!” and Mrs. Lorna A. walked all 4 floors both are examples of how high the building pride that is running. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. Marie C. exclaimed: “let the games tradition begin”. Then it was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as Daniel Finn performed to the delight of all in attendance. The 2020 Seniors Games were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Pauline P. as she was joined in welcoming all guests by MLA Brandon East, Mr. Len Isleifson; City of Brandon Mayor, Rick Chrest; and Brandon City Police Chief, Wayne Balcan.
Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence
At Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence we had 70 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see how many floors they could walk and how many stickers they could collect. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests at the Opening Ceremony. Then it was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as the Gago Brothers performed to the delight of all in attendance. They brought such an excitement to the building and had fun answering questions and performing for us. The 2020 Seniors Games at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Pat T., as she welcomed all guests and participants. Community, business and government dignitaries participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances; RCAF Barker College Command Team – Lieutenant-Colonel Scott Ash; Winnipeg Police Inspector Emerson, Staff Sargent Trudeau and Constable Olsen; Military Family Resource Centre Director,Ana Vucic; LifeSmart Pharmacist, Jared Fridfinnson; and fan favourite Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club mascot, Buzz. When asked how she was enjoying the events today Gwen B. started beaming and said with a big smile, “oh, it was such a good day! I enjoyed last year’s Games but I think this year’s Games are even better!!!”
Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence
At Sturgeon Creek II we started our day with the official Opening Ceremony of the 11th Annual Seniors Games, celebrating Traditions. The 2020 Seniors Games at Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Vera Maher. The Chef de Mission and her Games Assistants along with the VIP’s and visiting dignitaries were piped into the dining room and all joined in the singing of O Canada, after which the official games torch was placed in its place of honour. Michael Hart, executive director of the facility, welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and tenants were joined at the Opening ceremony by Tricia Charles, All Seniors Care Vice President of Manitoba; City Councillor Scott Gillingham; 17 Wing Command Team Col Eric Charron and CWO Claude Faucher; and Winnipeg Police Inspector Emerson with Sgt. Trudeau. After a hardy lunch, walkers gathered in the front lobby to organize for the Walk & Roll event. Tenants were joined by staff members to walk the 4 floors, where water tables, manned by Winnipeg police officers and cadets, did a fine job keeping trekkers hydrated and encouraged to keep going. Entertainment was enjoyed by those who could not attend the walk. After the first hour, dancing shoes were donned and lively music was shared to enable dancers to strut their moves.
Seine River Retirement Residence
At Seine River Retirement Residence, we started our day with 75 avid walkers, fast rollers and new to Seine River tenants join us this morning walking the halls for an hour! Tenants made goals for themselves, and some couldn’t be stopped! We are wearing our stickers with pride! “When Resident Rosemary S. walked by the nurse who was handing out stickers on the red floor, with local pharmacist John Thompson from Medicine Shoppe, the nurse stated, “Hey John, do you have something for her, she is starting to look like she might be contagious with all those red dots.” All the tenants had a great laugh! The 2020 Seniors Games at Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Laurine E. as she welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances; MLA Andrew Smith; MLA Janice Morley Lecomte; Deputy Wing Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mark Fugulin; Warrant Officer Caroline Gagnon; Police Inspector Wowchuk; and All Seniors Care Manitoba Vice President, Tricia Charles. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. The is was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as the Victor Phillip & The Invisible Guys Trio performed to the delight of all in attendance. The amount of traditions posted on the walls and being talking about this week is amazing. Tenants are taking hours to walk all the halls and read each other’s traditions, which is sparking some amazing conversation! Here at Seine River, our favorite tradition is the games!! It brings together such fun, friendship and comradeship!
River Ridge I Retirement Residence
At River Ridge 1, our first day of the All Seniors Care Seniors Games started with a bang! There was electricity in the air as the dining room swarmed with guests, dignitaries and athletes all raring to go! The 2020, 11th Annual All Seniors Care Games saw a record turnout, a vast sea of white in the dining room, as our Co-Chefs de Mission, Joyce Anderson and Charles Reynolds welcomed everyone and brought greetings from the Right Honourable Governor General, Julie Payette, and The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by; Lily Goodman, CEO All Seniors Care Living Centers; Capt David Brookes and MWO Joel Manaigre from the Canadian Forces School of Survival and Aeromedical Training Command Team; Inspector Kelly Dennison, Staff Sargeant Marc Philippot, Patrol Sgt Wendy Basic and Sgt Rich Lemire, Winnipeg Police Service; Nicole Dube, Morning Live Co-host CTV; Jennifer Fearn and Dorian Mann, Postmedia and thee Winnipeg Sun; Karen Whalen, Director of Community Services, Wellness Institute; as well as some of the Winnipeg’s finest, Cadets from the WPS! Our “non-competitive” hallway walk and roll saw tenants assembling to walk the floors, placing bets on who would go the furthest to gain the most coveted colored stickers and lining up their ‘wheels’ to drag race down the halls! The hallways were literally packed in long lines as our walkers filled the floors. There were high fives given as a steady line of ‘first-finishers’ crossed by Nicole Dube and Co-Chefs de Mission Joyce Anderson and Chuck Reynolds holding the torch high at the finish line! We began working on our TRADITIONS song immediately after the 2019 Games and performed it complete with our own percussion section of jangling keys during the chorus! We even enjoyed putting our own spin on breakdancing by learning a couple of ‘pops’ like the wave and the robot—watch for upcoming videos! When asked why she wasn’t up dancing and showing off her new “pop” moves at the non-competitive dance component, Tenant Irene M (who took part in everything since the early morning) said, “I’m too pooped to pop! Catch me tomorrow!” Don’t worry Irene, we will!
River Ridge II Retirement Residence
Today at River Ridge II Retirement Residence our residents, staff, and community members joined to open the 11th annual 2020 ASCSG: Traditions! We started our day with our opening ceremony which included speeches, a Petanque au tout demonstration, and a sing-along of our very own custom RRII Traditions song! After a heart healthy lunch created by our Red-Seal chef, our residents took on the challenge to walk all four floors to earn color coded stickers from local volunteers to cheer them all on at our water stations. We also had live entertainment to keep the momentum going throughout the floors as well as our own traditions posted on the walls for all to share. It was hard work but the smiles of satisfaction for taking on the task was evident! Many of our residents took on the challenge of walking all four floors. Mrs. L. was anxious and excited to get started before the rest. “I am here to get my red sticker for walking” she declared as she approached our first floor (aka the red floor), water table. Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence
At Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence, we started our day with 85 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be while other residents enjoyed a lively band in the dining room. We had Mrs. Gutkin leading the way on all three floors today after just celebrating her 99th birthday and having a hip replacement. Talk about perseverance! Our residents had fun this morning with the two Constables from the Winnipeg Police Service during our non-competitive walk and roll. The Constables manned the first floor water table and handed out citations for speeding, unscheduled napping, and assaulting an officer! The 2020 Seniors Games at were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Laila D. as she welcomed community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances: City Councillor, Kevin Klein; Lieutenant Colonel, Ian Perrault and CWO Martial Laporte; Winnipeg Police Service Chief of Police Danny Smyth, Constable Martin Boileau and Constable Garnie McIntyre; Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, Fred De Groot; Jillian Currie on behalf of Minister of Families and Deputy Premier Heather Stefanson; All Seniors Care Manitoba Vice President, Tricia Charles; Darlene Ronald from the Manitoba Opera; Jakee Werbuk – Program Coordinator Charleswood 55+ Seniors’ Centre. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. Then is was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as James Harrison performed to the delight of all in attendance. Mr. Murray H. shared that his annual tradition was getting the same two seats at the Bomber Games each season.
McCarthy Place Retirement Residence
At McCarthy Place we started our day with 45 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Sheila P walk all halls 3 times which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at McCarthy Place have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week. The 2020 Seniors Games were officially opened by our Chefs du Mission, Ken & Evelyn M., as they welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by: Deputy Mayor of Stratford, Martin Ritsma; Representative from John Nater’s office, Tim Spark; and All Seniors Care VP of Health & Wellness, Hannah Silver. With the Games officially open everyone at McCarthy Place is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. You can feel the excitement in the air! Deputy Mayor Ritsma was in fierce competition with Executive Director Dan Vito at the opening ceremony, scoring the highest Petanque au Tout score! We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. This was time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as the residents of McCarthy place learned some moves with Inspired By Fitness.
Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence
At Cedarcroft Retirement Place, we started our day with 35 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Mr. and Mrs. M walked all 3 floors which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Cedarcroft Residence have towards the Games. The 2020 Seniors Games at Cedarcroft Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Ms. Theresa T. as she welcomed all Athletes and Volunteers. We were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating all athletes on their performances; Deputy Mayor Martin Ritsma; Mr. Sparks, of John Nater’s office; Hannah Silver, All Seniors Care VP of Health and Wellness. We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. This was the time to enjoy our Demonstration Sport, Break Dancing, as Inspired Fitness Instructor Tish led residents of Cedarcroft in our Traditions song and dance! “When resident Mrs. S. came down with her walker she was grooving to the tune of the entertainment and started a dance party in the hallways. Beacon Heights Retirement Residence
At Beacon Heights we started our morning off on a cheerful note dancing to Arlene Quinn, while she was playing some upbeat music singing along with her guitar, she was getting everyone ready to start walking the halls, we had large group of residents who participated in the “Walk and Roll”. The most active residents were led by our walking assistant Réjeanne D. as they walked 5 floors and used the stairwell to come down. We also had another one of our residents, Jean V., lead the other walking group that preferred to walk at their own pace. The opening ceremonies started with the parade of dignitaries lead by the piper Graham Ogilvy. We had the pleasure of having Jackie Dusome, ASC Vice President of Compliance, the City Counsellor Tim Tierney, and RCMP Vice president of the Veterans Association, Fred Lyle to join us on this special day. The residents enjoyed sharing their favourite traditions and we had a lot of fun putting everyone’s personalized traditions in the song that would be brought back to life by singing it out loud with everyone. We had two special guests, guitarists Linda and Gary Yates, accompany everyone with an upbeat tune to help make this song even more personalized and special. Once the speeches and the official throw of Pétanque ball were done, Chef de Mission Mr. Cormier, declared the 2020 All Seniors Care Senior Games officially OPEN! The theme this year is Traditions – Chef de Mission Mr. Cormier, shared one of his Christmas traditions, whether you want it or not, getting an orange on Christmas morning is what you got. It made everyone laugh in the room.
Chapel Hill Retirement Residence
At Chapel Hill Retirement Residence, we started our day with over 50 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. : We have so many returning athletes this year to help coach our “Newbie” participants. Everyone is so excited for the week ahead! We have been working on our TRADITIONS song for weeks and had a great time performing it for our guests. The 2020 Seniors Games at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef du Mission, Mrs. Paulette J as she welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances; City Councillor Innes Ward, Laura Dudas; and Jackie Dusome, VP of Compliance for All Seniors Care. The theme this year is Traditions – “I love how much the All Seniors Care Seniors Games remind me of when our family would gather to watch and cheer on Team Canada. This event brings back such happy memories of my family’s traditions!”
Cité Parkway Retirement Residence
At Cite Parkway Retirement Residence, we began the day with our VIP’s, chef de mission and game assistants all being piped into the dining room for our opening ceremonies! As well, we had the chance to sing our tradition song that we have been practicing for the past few months. Afterwards, 50+ walkers made the trek walking the halls, cheering on their fellow residents and stopping for water at our water stations manned by volunteers. Music played throughout the day, with Dennis D. leading a sing-along in the morning and Guy L. getting us up dancing during the afternoon. “Oh my what a day!” Our Chef de Mission and Assistants lead the walk of the 7 floors, who encouraged many others to join in. The hallways were packed! The 2020 Seniors Games at Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Mr. L. as he welcomed all guests and participants. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community & business dignitaries who participated in congratulating all the athletes on their participation & excitement: Jackie Dusome, VP of Compliance, All Seniors Care; Andrew Kozman, CEO, ADM Ottawa Physiotherapy; Brad Burleau, Ottawa Police Services; Leo Lavergne, Executive Director, Pauline Charron Centre; Diane Dore, President, Foundation of Pauline Charron Center.

At Résidence de la Gappe Phase 1, we had walkers putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We were encouraged to walk by paramedics from the Coopérative des paramédics de l’Outaouais as well as by two students from the Cégep de l’Outaouais, Miss Wallingford and Miss Chagnon-St-Amour. The residents had a burst of energy in their company! Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances: Monsieur Gilles Carpentier, Ville de Gatineau; and Monsieur Mathieu Lévesque, CAQ. The theme being traditions, we ended the non-competitive walk by quoting some of our own traditions. Many were cited such as: songs to respond to, birthdays, holidays at the seaside, father’s blessing, Sunday morning mass, autumn market gardening and good home cooking.

In Résidence de la Gappe phase 2, the residents were so happy this morning when the jerseys were distributed, Mr. M. immediately put on his and asked “where are the games, I’m ready…” This morning for the opening march we took the residents down to the second floor to walk all together. Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances, Mr. Gilles Carpentier, City of Gatineau and Mr. Mathieu Lévesque, CAQ. When people were singing the, O Canada we could feel the excitement in the air, really a beautiful moment!

At Résidence de la Gappe Phase 3 and 4 we had 62 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Including Mrs. Doris L., who at 96 years old was very proud to have made the 9 back and forth trips for the walk! We are all really proud of her! We were fortunate to be encouraged to walk by paramedics from the Coopérative des paramédics de l’Outaouais as well as two students from the Cégep de l’Outaouais in the same field. Residents greatly appreciated the performance of Mr. André Desjardins, who put on a great show during the walk! Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances, Monsieur Mathieu Lévesque, CAQ and Monsieur Gilles Carpentier, Ville de Gatineau. With the Games officially open the residents appreciated very much the opening ceremony with the presence of Mr. Jonh Virag piper. We had a wonderful first day!
