At Laurel Heights Retirement Residence, 8 bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 14 bowlers with scores over 180! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Our Archers are glad they weren’t born in the medieval times or there would have lost a lot of battles. Bowlers and Archers were joined at the award ceremony by Denaye from Ferguson Family hearing who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. When commenting on his curve at bowling Mr. M. decided: “I have to start putting lifts in one of my shoes I’m a little left this year!”

At Rutherford Heights, 26 wii bowlers battled for medals. We had 20 people compete for Archery and on our Supportive Safe Living Care floor, we had 11 people bowling for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 26 bowlers with scores over 87! Due to the size of the group we had to limit the frames to only 5. While on our care floors, residents battled for a medal in floor bowling. We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Archery was filled with just as much excitement, but no one stood a change once Frank hit the bullseye twice. Once in regular play and then in play offs. With all the excitement wii bowling this morning and it being such a tight race, one of the residents let go of the remote and let it fly like a real ball. No one was hurt in the process and no damage was done, but we all had a good laugh. Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Debra Rayment from the Celiac Society, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
Silver Medalist Elsie Look exclaimed: “I’m so happy to win, I might cry!”

At Auburn Heights we has 8 Independent Wii Bowlers and 7 Memory Care 5 Pin Floor Bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 15 bowlers with scores over 120! It was obvious to audience that ringers filled the field. Today we had the greatest bowlers demonstrating their skills with thunderous applause and deafening Woo’s and awe’s. Spectators were treated to a superlative demonstration of skill and knowledge. The competitive nature of the participants truly reflected the All Seniors Care Games spirt. Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Senior Executive VP of Operations Joshua Kuhl, MLA Rick Fraser, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. “A wiggle and a jiggle will make the pins fall down” Susan (Family Member).

At Lewis Estates residence, 12 bowlers and 6 archers battling for medals. In the morning the residents had a great time with the Wii Bowling. Many of our residents came to cheer for those competing in the games. The residents did very well, and really became quite competitive! In the playoffs all 4 of the residents playing got strikes one after another! The crowd went wild! The residents were very supportive and we had a really good crowd out to cheer for the winners of today’s medals. Mr. D. said during Wii bowling, “Why does the ball keep going that way?!” He had such a wicked curve towards the end of the game! At Archery, it was a slow start but we had a good crowd that helped cheer on the competitors. Even the competitors were cheering one another on! Residents had a great time with archery and even happier to win a medal! Mrs. D., who was the winner of the gold medal said after getting the arrow into the center of the target, “Now if I can only remember how I did that?!”

At Summerwood Village we had 9 bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 9 bowlers with scores in the 130 range. Everyone was a little nervous. The playoffs produced higher scores. Several bowlers were new to the sport and had not practiced with us all year. Even though those bowlers were newbie’s they still kicked butt making it all the way to the playoffs. Participants were joined at the award ceremony by Sharon Mclain from Parmacare, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. The fans cheered so loud residents in the dining room came to see what all the ruckus was about. “go.. go.. go… Stay in the lane… stay in the lane……. Ohhhh smithers”

At Preston Park Retirement Residence, 16 bowlers and, 8 Archers battled for medals. Our morning started off with some high scores, most of them over 200! Full audience joined us in cheering on the bowlers. One of our newest residents, Don Pearson has only been playing for a few short months! He ended up winning gold with a total of 8 strikes in a row! Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by the Saskatoon Council on Aging, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Mr. P. exclaimed “Wow, I don’t know how I did that but I cheated myself out of that 9th strike” with a smile. Once the fun of the tournament was over many onlookers decided to get up and give it a try.

We were very impressed by their skill and talents! “No wonder you have so many Moose on your land Bert, hit the target.” Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Roberta Gamble from the Red Cross, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Mr. Z. exclaimed: “Blinded by the light” after his picture was taken!

At College Park Retirement Residence, bowling assistant Maria DeLeeuw organized 12 bowlers who battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 2 bowlers with scores over 200! We were very impressed by their skill, talents, and everyone’s enthusiasm. “Billiards assistant, Leonard, gave everyone a laugh this morning during Wii Bowling when he exclaimed, “I didn’t realize I needed my glasses for this!.” Following bowling, Wii Archery assistant, Diane Stover, organized 9 athletes who battled for medals. Everyone was excited for the newest component of the Games this year, Wii Archery. We had many spectators who enjoyed the friendly competition.

At College Park II, 10 bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 10 bowlers with scores over 189!!! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Then archery got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 7 archers with scores over 76! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! We had so many supporters cheering on their friends! We even had CBC Regina (French) come in and capture all of the bowling action as well as interviewing two of our French speaking players!
Bowlers and archers were joined at the award ceremony by Rosemary from the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism who congratulated the all athletes on their performances. Gold Medalist Ernie R. exclaimed “WE DID IT!!” when asked what the highlight of the day was.

At Victoria Landing, 19 bowlers and 15 archers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Bowling Round Robin produced 19 bowlers with scores over 250 and in the afternoon the archers aimed for the target with scores over 59! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Unfortunately, none of the bowlers in the Final broke a score of 250 (245 being the highest). This did not dampen our Seniors Games spirit however and we enjoyed a wonderful awards ceremony this afternoon.” Athletes and spectators were joined at the award ceremony by John Loregio representing the Diabetes Association who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Bowling Silver Medalist Cecil Bayes exclaimed in the final: “Come on let’s take care of business.”

Sturgeon Creek 1 had 26 bowlers and 18 Archers battle for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start with cheers throughout the building. The theatre was roaring with excitement as several athletes had turkeys and outstanding scores. The cheers could also be heard from the Dining Room as Archery was underway. Several bullseyes were made by our athletes. A very exciting morning of playoffs for everyone. Ray Davis was able to clinch a spot in the finals with a 10th frame Turkey in Wii bowling. Unfortunately the turkeys went to Jean West and Therese Lavallee in the finals securing their Gold and Silver finishes. Archery was new to SC1 this year with a great turnout of fans to cheer on our athletes. Excitement went through the roof as athletes would call out bullseye and indeed get one. Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by the Cancer Care Foundation of Manitoba. Daily Quote: Chef De Mission Jean West won the gold medal in Wii Bowling. When she found out she had won the gold she was in total disbelief. “No way I didn’t” When assured the gold was indeed hers she said (while giving herself a pat on the back) “Well done me not bad for 94”

At SC II 8 feisty bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to a rocky start as the Wii decided to have a mind of its own and not work. After an hour of finessing, 8 bowlers stepped in and faced the alley. In the finals, the gold was won by the youngest player, and the bronze was won by the oldest player!!! This is the first year archery has been played as a Senior Games sport, and surprisingly, we had more participants than any other game. We considered changing the name from archery to “oh my goodness” as we heard this many times during the competition. Bowlers and archers were out in full force to accept their medals, amid much cheering from rowdy fans!! One archer commented after the competition, “Nobody even got Marilyn today, and that was a first for us.” A picture of Marilyn Monroe hangs relatively close to where the target is positioned, and someone invariably will make contact with the picture when we play.

At Seine River Retirement Residence 11 bowlers and 9 archers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 2 bowlers with scores over 200! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! In the afternoon we had a tie for Gold! So the two tenants went head to head in a 3rd game, where Kathleen proved her talent and scored a 214! We had a few Robin Hoods, and Maid Marion’s who showed their skills, and a few tenants who made us run for the hills (literally) J – we had a morning filled of fun and laughter! The afternoon produced another tie! Where two tenants fought it out for bronze. We had tons of laughs, as each round they produced no score! Finally after 6 attempts, Mrs C. stuck a good shot and bronze was secured! Our Pom Poms are shedding, we are shaking them so hard!!
Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Canadian Diabetes Association, who gave us a great learning session and participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. The Archery Gold Medalist explained her success, ‘I stuck it, I finally stuck it!!! And it was all due to the spit!’ (we have a hard time with the suction cup on the arrow actually sticking to our target, so this time she decided to lick the suction cup… and it worked!!)

At River Ridge, 24 bowlers and 16 archers battled for medals. Squeals, sighs and raucous laughter accompanied the morning’s competitions as back to back arenas housed capacity crowds for Wii Bowling and Archery. Competition started hard and fast with Al Gurney leading the pack with a 5 strike hot-streak in the first game! Out of 24 bowlers, black triangles and bowties dominated the scorecards- not one bowler had fewer than 3 spares! “Backspins, hooks and crooked flightpaths tried to dampen the enthusiasm of our athletes, but instead, the competitors fought back fiercer than ever!! Sylvia, archery leader broke out in a chorus of “Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and Smile..smile…smile!” and soon had the whole area singing-The dark horse in today’s competition was Al Gurney who swept the gold medals for both events! Athletes were joined at the award ceremony by Ron O’Donovan from Winnipeg Harvest, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
Gold Medalist Al Gurney exclaimed: “I may move slow but I guess I can still win gold!!!”

At Shaftesbury Park, 17 bowlers and cheerleaders battled for medals in Wii Bowling. Later on in the morning we had 22 archers battling for top spot! Meanwhile in the Boulevard our residents were busy winning medals in Ring Toss! The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 6 bowlers with scores over 160! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! The archers drew a crowd of their own as they shot their way to the medals. Mrs. P. decided to give Wii Bowling a try for the first time this morning during the round robin. She couldn’t get over how much fun she was having and reassured us that she will be attending Wii Bowling every week from now on! Bowlers and archers were joined at the award ceremony by Kelsey Streber, a social worker from Age & Opportunity: Support Services for Older Adults where Mr. Silver was presented with gold medals in both events! After Mrs. Donen had an amazing score of 246 in the morning Wii Bowling Round Robin she suffered from a case of the jitters scoring 192 in the finals and exclaimed, “It’s a mad, mad world! No wonder we’re watching that movie tonight!”

We were very impressed by their skill and talents! Mrs. Green who is 104 years old and just quit her bowling league 2 years ago Stated that she” never thought she would bowl again especially for an award” and “That it brought back so many great memories”. Athletes and spectators were joined at the award ceremony by Dan vito and Stacy McArdle (Co-DOC), who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Gold Medalist Dennis Bezzant exclaimed: “I have never been a fan of bowling but after winning the gold I LOVE IT”

At McCarthy Place, 16 bowlers and 5 archers battling for medals, with an additional cheering section of 20. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 16 bowlers with scores over 150! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! A few bowlers had ‘wacky’ balls that were believed to be at the bar before the event began. The bowling balls suddenly veered into the gutter, but we all cheered loudly and had a wonderful time. Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by local non-profit, Feline Friends Network who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.

Today Wii Bowling players gathered in the Bistro/café room. The assistant Mr. Don Price had prepared the team, he explained the rules and it was game time. The audience cheered loudly for the Strikes and Spares, Mr. V. got 5 Strikes in a row. Mrs. Annie Parisien from the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre came to present the services the non-profit organization offers to the population. Residents appreciated the presentation. Mrs. Parisien stayed for the medal presentations.

Originally Sand bags was never supposed to be an event for the games but I had made an error and promised a certain lady that it would be. I felt so terrible I decided to run the event anyway and it turned out to be our highest attended activity to date! Dr. Chackal our homes audiologist was delighted to hand out medals to our winning recipients! “Now that we have a gold medal winner we will have to send him out for drug testing!!” Said by Norm Macpherson while producing a urine sample container as a joke for our gold medalist winner Robert Langis!

At Résidence de la Gappe phase 1, 3 bowlers battled for medals. The morning score where higher and closer to one another, it must have been because of the coffees and bacon (171, 172 and 177)! The crowd was very impressed by the players it gave some of them the will to try the WII for the first time! Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by [Heart and Stroke Foundation], who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Our gold medal: Mrs. Marcelle Caza Bergeron was so proud of herself because it’s her very first medal ever won in her life and she is 89 years old

Later that morning we walked all 5 floors and 6 with music and people really happy and we have 12 persons and for bean bag we have 35 persons to participation All players’ really enthusiasm we put music and the nurse for the 4th floor have so much energy The Assistant and director be there to give the medals to the resident Our gold medal: is 3 news resident and she’s really happy to win

We were very impressed by their skill and talents! “The ladies were playing to win today and they battled it out all through the day….we had some pretty awesome scores. Way to go ladies of La Gappe!!! Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Mathieu from Côté Santé, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances. Gold Medalist Jeannette Bourgeois was totally excited by her score and jumped in the air when she finished with 199……I knew I could do it, she exclaimed!!!”

At Chateau Symmes, 24 bowlers battled for medals. The morning got off to an excellent start as the Round Robin produced 24 bowlers with scores over 500! We were very impressed by their skill and talents! We had many late arrival who did play but did not compete but did participate in encouraging the others. We had quite the blast in the gym, the competition was quite heavy! No bowler had a score under 500. A resident stated that it was because he was missing teeth that he had trouble aiming and getting the pins! Bowlers were joined at the award ceremony by Ronald Jolicoeur, who participated in congratulating the winning athletes on their performances.
