7th ANNUAL SENIORS GAMES BEGIN WITH
MUSIC, WALKING AND LAUGHTER
Today the 2016 All Seniors Care Seniors Games officially opened across the country. The Seniors Games are part of the commitment that management and staff of All Seniors Care Living Centres have made to providing residents and friends with innovative ways to maintain an active lifestyle throughout the years at our beautiful retirement communities.
To open The Games, Day 1 got underway with a spirited, non-competitive Walk and Roll of the hallways. Then the Chefs du Mission in each building officially opened the games. All then joined in a Toast to The Games and the power of a song followed by a ceremonial throwing of the Bocce ball by all visiting dignitaries. Many celebrities and dignitaries volunteered their time to help make the event a success. Her Honour Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor General of Ontario and Her Honour Lois Mitchell Lieutenant Governor General of Alberta brought greetings and words of encouragement while MP’s, MLA/MPP’s and City Councillors were in attendance at all 24 Residences across the country to provide their well wishes throughout the day. All of the dignitaries who gave of their time to help us were greeted with cheers and appreciation
At CTV Winnipeg studios during CTV Morning Live, our Shaftesbury Park Chef du Mission, Ms. Mary Bancroft and Event Planner Ronna Goldberg introduced the games on TV, while at Sturgeon Creek I CBC TV and Radio interviewed their co-Chefs du Mission and in Regina CTV was out to record the Opening Ceremony proceedings.
With the Games officially open everyone is looking forward to the week ahead of competition you can feel the excitement in the air! In Edmonton at Laurel Heights, 3rd year Chef de Mission and prominent athlete Marjory Fairbridge, observed that “hopefully things go ‘My Way’ during competitions”. At McCarthy Place in Stratford, Ontario our ceremony ended with former opera singer and current resident Michelle Di Gangi, giving moving performance of ‘My Way’. While in Winnipeg at Sturgeon Creek I, when asked if he was excited for the Games to begin, competitor Mr. Dave Taylor exclaimed “You bet, I’ve been up ready since 4:00 am.”
Across Canada, several thousand seniors will be enjoying the fun, friendly competition and activity that comes from taking part in the Games this week. The Games run until Feb. 5th and any spectators and participants are welcome! For further information, please visit our website.
