In 1972, American singer-songwriter Bill Withers wrote the song “Lean On Me” and the chorus is timeless and still full of meaning to this day:
Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on
On January 15th, 2014 the All Seniors Care Living Centres “Lean on Me initiative” will be brightening the lives of the homeless with mobility challenges in cities across Canada by providing beautifully crafted maple walking sticks and new mobility freedom for those who need it the most. People experiencing the inability to walk without assistance deal daily with safety issues as well as long term deterioration to physical and mental health.
At the 22 All Seniors Care retirement residences our staff and residents are painting and decorating hand crafted maple walking canes and gifting them to homeless shelters for distribution, including our veterans living in the shelter in Victoria, British Columbia.
